Abstract
Background: Patient safety errors occur mainly due to miscommunication. Situation, Background, Assessment and Recommendation (SBAR) is one of the methods for the correct communication between medical personnel. We developed a simulation program to provide SBAR training to nurses and evaluated its effectiveness.

Methods: The simulation program for SBAR training included: theoretical lectures, simulations, and debriefing. The scenarios were randomly assigned to novice nurses. We recorded the communication between these nurses and simulated doctors and graded the communication before and after simulation using a check list.

Results: The study included 43 nurses. The scores in every component of SBAR increased after the simulation. There was also an increase in overall scores, knowledge, and self-confidence.

Conclusion: SBAR training for the novice nurse using simulation was effective.
